Best Wood Chippers: Best Commercial Wood Chipper Brands?

Wood chippers are used to remove large pieces of wood from buildings or other structures. They are generally made up of several parts which include the blade, saw, and dust collection system. Most wood chipper manufacturers offer their products in different models with various features and specifications. There are many factors that go into choosing a good commercial wood chipper. Some of these considerations include price, size, type of blades, types of saws available, and so forth.

The main purpose of buying a commercial wood chipper is to get rid of unwanted lumber. However, there are some advantages to purchasing one too. For example, it is cheaper than building your own. Also it saves time since you don’t have to do any work yourself when using a commercial wood chipper.

You just need to bring in the logs and let them do all the hard work.

In addition, you will save money if you buy a commercial wood chipper rather than making your own. If you make your own wood chipper, then you can use less energy because it uses less fuel and water compared to a commercial one. A commercial wood chipper consumes much more power than its smaller counterpart.

The type of material that is being used is another factor to consider before buying a wood chipper. Some are designed specifically to deal with hardwood while others are for softwood. The size of the wood also matters when choosing a wood chipper. Manufacturers usually have recommendations on which wood chipper is suitable for a certain type and size of wood.

There are some things to look out for when buying a wood chipper. The most important factors are how well it works and its safety measures. It should be able to perform its task quickly and effectively without jamming. The user also needs to be safe when working with a wood chipper.

Some of the safety features that you need to look out for include shields, foot protection, gloves, and other protective gear.

Best Wood Chippers: What Are The Top 5 Selling Wood Chippers?

There are so many wood chipper reviews out there in Amazon. I’ve done some research and this is what I found:

The first product that I am going to review is the WEN 6550 Wood Chipper/Leaf Shredder. As implied in the name, this machine can do two functions. It can turn branches into wood chips and leaves into leaf shreds.

The WEN 6550 is easy to assemble. It comes with easy to understand and illustrated instructions. Beginners should have no problems putting this together. On the other hand, professionals may find it a little bit too simple.

It measures 33 by 32 by 40 inches and weighs 55 pounds.

The materials used to make the WEN 6550 are of good quality. It is made from heavy duty metal which makes it durable. Furthermore, it has a two year warranty which shows that the manufacturer has trust in their product.

The wood chipper can cut branches that are 3/4 of an inch in diameter. Diameter is the distance from the center to the outer edge. For example, if you put in a branch that has an area of 1 inch in diameter then it would not be able to process it. However, if you were to use a branch that has an area of 7/8 of an inch then it would work just fine.

The leaf shredder is one of the best features about this product. It reduces large pieces of leaves into small bits suitable for compost. Depending on how big the pile of leaves is, it can take between 5 to 10 minutes to finish the job.

The only minor drawback about this product is that the chute tends to clog up if you add in larger twigs. Fortunately, this is easily fixed by making sure that you only feed small twigs into the machine.

This machine is priced cheaper than the alternatives which makes it a great value for money.

Pros:

Can shred leaves as well as branches

Comes with extra warranty of two years

Comes with easy to understand instructions

Durable heavy duty metal material

Cons:

Shredder tends to clog up if you put in larger twigs and branches

The second product that I will be reviewing is the Sun Joe TJ603E. It is a wood chipper/shredder similar to the WEN 6550. It can shred leaves as well as branches so if you happen to have a lot of leaves to get rid of then this is a great product for you.

The Sun Joe TJ603E is easy to assemble. If you can follow instructions then you should have no problems putting it together. You will be able to do it within an hour or so.

The materials used to make the machine are not of the best quality. When compared to the WEN 6550, you can immediately see the difference in durability.

The chipper has a 2 bushel capacity which means that you can put in a lot of branches at a time. Furthermore, it is able to shred 1 inch branches which is slightly more than its competitor. It also shreds leaves but it is not as efficient as the WEN 6550. It leaves larger pieces of leaves that need to be shredded a few times before it can pass through.

The only major drawback of this product is the fact that the materials used to make it are of low quality. If it were more durable then it would be able to withstand regular and continuous use for years with little or no problems.

The Sun Joe TJ603E is priced slightly higher than the WEN 6550 which makes it not as good of a value for money.

Pros:

Can shred 1 inch branches

Comes with a two bushel capacity

Cons:

Materials used to make it are of low quality

More expensive than the WEN 6550

The last wood chipper that I will be reviewing is called the Smithers Better Grow-More. It is very similar to the Backyard product and is more or less identical to the WEN 6550. It is priced similarly to the WEN 6550 as well.

Best Wood Chippers - Best Purch Marketplace

The Smithers Better has a 3 bushel capacity which means that you can shred a lot of twigs and small branches at a time. It is also able to shred 1 inch twigs which is more than adequate for most people.

Assembly is required and it should not take you more than an hour to get it up and running. The instructions that come with the machine are easy to understand.

The materials used to make the machine are of low quality. It is not as durable as the other wood chippers that I have talked about in this review. This means that you will have to take extra care of it if you want it to last for more than a couple of years.

The Smithers Better Grow-More is not as efficient when it comes to shredding leaves. It tends to clog up and it requires you to clean it every once in awhile.

The chute is on the smaller side which means that you will have to take the extra step in piling the shredded material so that it does not hinder the process of shredding.

The Smithers Better Grow-More does not come with any warranty. If you are going to purchase it then I would highly recommend that you buy an extended warranty.

The materials used to make this machine are of low quality and I can already tell that it is not as durable as the other wood chippers that I have talked about in this review. It does not come with a warranty which is a concern for me because it means that the manufacturer has little to no faith in their product.

Even though the chipper has a 3 bushel capacity, it will clog up easily and you will have to clean it quite often. Furthermore, the chute is on the smaller side which means that you will have to take the extra step in piling the shredded material so that it does not hinder the process of shredding.

The chipper is priced similarly to the WEN 6550 which is more or less identical. The WEN has more features and is more durable than this product.

The Smithers Better Grow-More is not a good value for money and you would be better off getting something else.

Pros:

Capable of shredding 1 inch twigs and branches

Best Wood Chippers - PURCH MARKETPLACE

Comes with a three bushel capacity

Cons:

Materials used to make it are of low quality

Poor design

Has a small chute which means you will have to take the extra step in piling the shredded material so that it does not hinder the process of shredding.

Comes with no warranty

Not a good value for money

Our Verdict

Out of all the wood chippers that I have reviewed, the WEN 6550 is the best one for the simple fact that it is more durable and has more features than the others. The Greenes Fall Far Farm Wood Chipper is a close second. The only reason why I do not recommend it is because it is a bit on the expensive side. If you have the money to spend on a wood chipper, then go for it.

The other two wood chippers that I have mentioned in this review are not worth the money.

They might be cheap but they are not durable and will only cause you a lot of problems in the long run. If you cannot afford the WEN 6550, then I recommend going with the Greenes Fall Far Farm.
