Best Ski Doo Snowmobile Covers: Best Ski Doo Snowmobile Covers
There are several types of ski-doos available today. There are two main categories of ski-doos; those with and without side windows. The first type have no side windows while the second type have side windows. Both types of ski-dos come in different sizes and shapes.
The most popular type of ski-doos are those with side windows. These types are called “side window” because they have a small opening at the top or bottom of the doo. Side windows allow you to see out when riding your snowboard or skis. Some riders prefer these types of ski-doos because it allows them to look over their shoulder if they need to make a turn or change direction quickly. Others like the privacy of having a fully enclosed doo.
Another advantage of skiing with side windows is that you don’t have to worry about getting stuck in the snow when going down a hill. If you go too fast, you might fall off your board or skis. You could even get hit by another rider’s board! A downside to having side windows is that they tend to be less durable than full-coverage ski-doos which protect from the elements better.
Some side window ski-doos come with a clear wind deflector that attaches to the inside the side windows. It helps protect the rider’s face from strong winds and is also good for deflecting snow thrown up by other riders in front of you.
When not in use, ski-doos should be covered to protect them from the elements. If you store your ski-doo uncovered, the elements can slowly cause it to deteriorate. As a result, you’ll have to spend more money on expensive repairs in the future. Also, when storing your ski-doo uncovered it is susceptible to possible theft.
When buying a cover for your ski-doo there are several things to consider. As with all things, some covers are better than others. Always try to buy a good quality cover made by a reputable manufacturer.
Snowmobile covers come in two general types: textile and hard. Each one has its own advantages and disadvantages.
Soft or textile covers are usually cheaper than hard covers. They are made from a woven fabric which is covered with a thick layer of padding on the inside. The padding protects the ski-doo from getting any bumps, dents or scratches when storing it.
The main disadvantage to textile covers is that they are not very durable. The fabric can easily rip or tear. Sometimes the padding can come off or get displaced. This lack of protection will allow water and other elements to damage the ski-doo during storage.
Hard or vinyl covers are more durable than a textile cover. They are usually priced higher because they are made from hard plastic which usually has some sort of reinforcement such as metal or carbon fiber. Hard covers are also more protective than soft covers.
When not in use, your ski-doo should be stored in a cool and dry place. The best place is inside your home or garage but not in direct sunlight. If it is really cold outside, you can store your ski-doo in your home if you have a heated garage or storage room.
Always keep the fuel tank at least half full when storing your ski-doo. This will prevent the fuel from evaporating and clogging up the fuel lines. A little bit of gasoline also wont hurt anything because it’ll just evaporate out of the tank.
When buying a cover for your ski-doo, you need to make sure it’s the right size. You don’t want it to be too loose or too tight. Too loose and the cover could slip off in the wind and expose your ski-doo to the elements. Too tight and the cover could rip or tear exposing your ski-doo.
Most covers come with straps that hook onto the ski-doo’s handlebars. When securing the cover, make sure you do not cover the ski-doo’s tail light or wrap the cover too tightly around the seat. Also, make sure to store the ski-doo on level ground for maximum stability.
When storing your ski-doo for an extended period of time such as the summer, you need to take some extra precautions.
The most important thing is to insulate the ski-doo and protect it from moisture and other elements. There are several products designed for this. The most common ones are:
Ski-doo jackets – These look like big inside out sleeping bags with a hole for the handlebars to poke through.
Ski-doo bags – These are big heavy duty plastic bags with several internal straps to hold the ski-doo in place.
In either case, you’ll need to make sure the inside of the storage bag does not come into contact with the exhaust system. This will cause a buildup of carbon monoxide gas which could lead to an explosion. Always use a cover as well to protect against wind and rain when storing your ski-doo outside.
When you use either type of storage bag, make sure to store the ski-doo on level ground for maximum stability. It’s also a good idea to store the ski-doo in an out of the way place so it’s not in plain view (especially if it’s a valuable model).
If you do need to store the ski-doo outside, make sure you leave it in a shaded area and keep the fuel tank at least half full.
If you are storing the ski-doo inside your home or garage, then it is not necessary to use a storage bag. The same safety precautions should still be taken however.
Buying Used Ski-Doos
When buying a used ski-doo, there are several factors that you should consider.
First of all, make sure you are familiar with the model you are looking at. There are several different types of skidoos such as 2-stroke, 4-stroke, 2 seat, 4 seat, etc. Each type is very different from one another and they all have their strong and weak points.
For example, 2-stroke models are cheaper to buy then 4-strokes models but they are noisier, more polluting and require special fuel.
Second of all, take a close look at the ski-doo you are thinking about buying. Check that the ski’s are in good condition and the snowmobile is not leaking any fluids. Run the engine for a little while to make sure it is working properly.
Finally, ask yourself if you really need this ski-doo now or can it wait until later. It is a good idea to have a small saving set aside for purchasing a ski-doo.
Remember, you don’t need to buy a brand new ski-doo right away. There are always good deals to be found on used models.
Repairing Your Ski-Doo
When it comes time to maintaining, repairing and upgrading your ski-doo, there are several options available to you.
The most common option is to contact the nearest dealer or service center for your ski-doo. These facilities have factory trained technicians who can deal with all your repair and service needs. Most of these service centers are also able to give you advice on aftermarket upgrades that could improve the performance of your ski-doo.
The down side to using a dealer or service center is that they can be expensive especially if you need your ski-doo repaired quickly.
Finding a Good Mechanic
Another option is to find a good mechanic who you can trust. However, not all mechanics are created equal. It really helps if you know someone who can personally recommend a good mechanic. If you don’t have anyone to refer, your best bet is to ask other riders. Pick up the phone and call around to local snowmobile clubs or associations in your area.
I’m sure you’ll be able to find some recommendations this way.
If you need to find a good mechanic who is capable of working on your ski-doo, there are a couple of things you should look for.
Reputable: The first thing you want to do is make sure the mechanic is reputable and professional in their work. Just because someone claims they know how to repair a ski-doo, doesn’t necessarily mean they can. Ask your potential mechanic several questions about what they’ve done and what their experience level is.
Affordable: Another thing to look for is a mechanic that is affordable. Even if someone has the knowledge necessary to work on your ski-doo, they may be charging so much that it isn’t worth using their services.
Finally, no matter who you decide to repair your ski-doo, it is a good idea to have a good relationship with them. Talk to them and ask them questions about their job and their training. If you develop a good relationship with your mechanic, they will be more likely to help you out in the future.
Upgrading Your Ski-Doo
Upgrading your ski-doo is probably something you will want to do eventually. Whether it be to increase the power of the engine or adding an external performance part, this is something that can be done to any ski-doo.
Upgrading a ski-doo is relatively easy to do as long as you know what you are doing. There are several guides online that can help you if you feel you are up to the task. If you don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself, there are many mechanics who can do the work for you.
No matter what you decide to do, remember that upgrading your ski-doo is an important decision. Some upgrades can improve the overall performance of your ski-doo, while others can do more harm than good. Do your research before you spend any money and always ask for a mechanic’s opinion before doing any sort of work to your ski-doo. If you take these precautions, upgrading your ski-doo should be a fun and exciting experience.
You’re now ready to go on the trail and show everyone how much you’ve learned! Have fun and be safe out there.
