Using A Router Table

If you’ve purchased a router table with a pin and ring mechanism, then you can do this by turning the rings to align the pin with the hole. If not, then you’ll need to make sure the holes in the fence are aligned with the ones on the columns. You can then lock this in place by turning the lock knob. If there is a smaller lock knob at the base, you’ll want to turn this one as well.
This will prevent the fence from moving from side to side.
Third, you should make sure that everything is properly grounded. The easiest way to do this is by turning on your router and then touching the blue terminal on your router table. Once they’re connected, you should feel a tingling feeling in your hand. If this happens, then the devices are properly grounded. You should never work on a router table that isn’t properly grounded.
After the table is set up, you can begin working on your project. First, you should place your wood against the fence and then slowly lower the bit into the wood until it just begins to cut into it. At this point, you can slowly move the router from left to right to make a groove in your piece. You can then use a piece of wood as a hammer to carefully begin removing material from the middle of the groove outward.
