Go to top.

Sometimes the greatest of enemies must unite against a common foe. The Lich Lord has been busy in his ancient castle planning and plotting.

Unknown to most, he was partially responsible for the last demon invasion twenty years ago. A lesser demon lord named Velzix had seized power in the infernal realm and decided to launch a bold attack against the mortal realm. Of course he was ultimately defeated by a coalition of forces, but not before great damage had been done. Since that time Velzix has been biding his time rebuilding his infernal armies, so that he may try again. However it is not only the mortal realm he intends on destroying, but also the underworld as well. Velzix broke open the ancient portal to the infernal realm known as the Blood Forts, which lie between the mortal realm and the infernal realm. Through this opening he has been sending legions of demons to not only destroy the mortal world, but also to conquer the underworld as well. Under normal circumstances the demons would never be able to successfully siege the gates of hades, but with Velzix providing a distraction, they may very well succeed. The demons are split into multiple armies. The first is the main army, currently surrounding the Blood Forts and preventing anyone from entering or exiting. The second is dispatched to conquer the infernal realm, namely a legion of succubus who are extremely successful in tempting the hellish denizens of that realm and turning them against their masters, and a legion of stone enigmas. These strange creatures have rocky bodies and elemental powers over rock and earth. They use this to tunnel through the rock and rip the very gates of hades from their hinges. The third and smallest army is currently unknown. No one knows what they’re doing, but the reports say they’re in a rural area known as Green Eye. It is here that our adventure begins.

A makeshift military camp has been erected in the forest nearby and this is where you and your fellow adventurers gather before entering Green Eye. Most of those present are soldiers, but you see a few others who probably have skill that would be of use.

You see an elven mage and a few humans, elves and dwarves who look like adventurers. This makes you feel a little more comfortable as this means that this isn’t a battle that could be won by military might alone. After all, demons are very tough to kill. This is also evidenced by the fact that several professional warriors were killed the last time demons invaded, and this was with the help of the Empire’s mages. The Captain enters the camp and you’re all introduced to her. Captain Eckard is in charge of this mission and she begins to address you all.

“Alright you incompetent lot, listen up. We’re going to enter the city soon and flush out any demons or hostile hell creatures we find in there.

Until further notice this place is under military control. I’ll give you all a moment to let that sink in.”

Does that mean there’s a chance we could get court martialed and executed for disobeying orders?”

someone shouts out.

Do you want to test that theory soldier?”

Captain Eckard answers.

“No ma’am!” the man says stepping back into line.

“Good, now then the whole point of this mission is to gather any and all information about what’s going on in the city. The longer we sit around not doing anything the worse the situation could get.

I don’t need to tell you that if the demons do take over then our chances of winning this war get slimmer. It is absolutely vital that we learn what we can while we can.”

Afterwards you and the rest are dismissed and prepare yourselves for the mission at hand. You’ve tried to remain positive throughout this ordeal, but the reality of everything is finally sinking in.

This isn’t a normal mission and could cost you your life. Then again it doesn’t matter how much bravado you display if the demons have already taken over, you’re going to die anyway. You wish you had taken that offer from Captain Pollo long ago and joined the Eternal Dominion instead. At least there you would’ve had a chance.

“Hey look, demons!” one of the soldiers shouts and points towards the city just as a large group of disfigured humanoid creatures come into view.

They must be the demons. There is no going back now, the only option is to attack and hope you survive.

You help in setting up the catapults and ballistae and firing upon the demons. They offer little resistance against the heavy weapons employed against them and are soon wiped out to a demon.

However, the damage has been done. The walls of your target, Green Eye, are now devoid of defending soldiers and the city itself is open to attack.

Catapults and ballistae are abandoned in favor of the more traditional battering ram. You’re placed into one of these groups and you all make your way towards a nearby intact gate.

The demons were either killed by the heavy weapons or from a distance with arrows. Other people were given the task of cleaning up the corpses before they start stinking up the place. This leaves defending the gate in your hands and you’re rather nervous about it.

Once your group arrives at the gate you match your strength with the other soldiers and push the ram as hard as you can. The wooden beam slams into the gate and it shakes but it doesn’t open.

You all take a step back and begin to push again.

“This isn’t working boys, it’s going to take a while. We’re going to need more people to make sure this thing stays where it is,” one of the soldiers says.

It’s obvious he’s correct but nobody wants to be the one to step away. The prospect of leaving the safety of the group is dangerous, there could be demons lurking in the shadows ready to strike.

“It’s okay, I’ll go,” a familiar voice says. It’s Eric.

The guy you replaced. He steps away from the ram and begins to head towards the safety of the soldiers behind you.

“Hey Eric, thanks,” you say.

He nods at you in return and moves to stand beside Captain Eckard. You give him a small smile before turning back towards the gate.

You and the rest begin to push the ram again. It takes some time, but finally the gate begins to open. You and the rest cheer at your victory and begin to maneuver the ram inside, leaving it just inside the walls.

“Alright, most of you go get something to eat and get some rest. You’ve earned it,” Captain Eckard says.

Once again you nod and quickly move away from the ram. You’re actually quite hungry and the idea of eating something sounds appealing.

You turn to head in the direction of the camp but stop when you notice Captain Eckard calling Eric aside to speak with him. You can’t hear what they’re saying but you see a smile on Eric’s face before he also heads to the camp.

You shrug and continue on your way.

You’ve just begun to pass through the camp when you begin to feel ill. A headache develops quickly and you pause for a moment, your hand resting on a nearby tent for support.

You try to fight through the pain but it only gets worse and you collapse to one knee. At that moment you feel a sharp pain in your wrist as your hand is suddenly pulled from the tent.

You look over and find that your hand has gone right through the material.

“There he is, it’s the Necromancer!” someone shouts and points at you.

“Get him!” another person cries.

You attempt to scramble away but find that your leg is suddenly stuck to the ground. You look down and find that your leg has gone through the ground.

You glance around to see that the ground has become solid ice and everyone is rushing towards you, including Captain Eckard.

People begin to strike at you with their weapons and each hit explodes in pain as it hits your ethereal form. It’s all you can do to try and deflect the blows with your hands.

Your other leg goes through the ground and you’re unable to move more than a few inches away from the spot you’re standing.

You look around desperately for a way to escape but everyone’s already gathered around you, attacking every time you try to raise an arm. Eric suddenly appears with his sword drawn.

He swings it down into your chest and you can feel yourself dying.

“No!” you groan before everything goes black and your spirit is sent flying out of your body.
