Manual grain mills are different from electric ones. They don’t require electrical power to work and they don’t use electricity to make the process of grinding the grain easier. Instead, you do all of the work of cranking the machine yourself.

You either turn a crank which moves a cam to spin the grinding stones or you turn a handle in a saw-like motion which does the same thing.

Manual grain mills can be either table top or hand cranked. Hand cranked mills are smaller and easier to store. They are ideal for people who want to grind small amounts of grain on a regular basis.

They are perfect for camping, too, because they are lightweight and easy to carry.

Table top mills are larger and heavier but they offer more grinding options and faster speeds than hand mills do.

Manual mills can also be purchased with either flat stones or burr stones. Burr stones grind the grain more evenly and consistently than flat stones do and they are less likely to get clogged with grain. However, burr mills are more expensive than flat stone mills.

You can’t just use any old manual mill to grind your grain into flour. You need a special tool known as a grain milling attachments to do that.
