Drugstore Eyeshadow Primer Reviews: Milani Eyeshadow Primer
Milani eyeshadow primer is one of the most popular eye shadow primers among beauty enthusiasts. It comes with a very high rating from users because it provides good results even if they have oily or combination skin.
The product was created by the famous makeup artist, Mila Kunis. She is known for her flawless make up looks.
The ingredients of this eye shadow primer are water, silica, cyclopentasiloxane, dimethicone/vinyl dimethicone crosspolymer, butylene glycol dicaprylate/dicaprate, PEG-100 stearate SE, phenoxyethanol (and) methylparaben. It contains no fragrance and no preservatives.
It is available in two different types. One type is called “Milanese” and the other one is called “Mila”.
Both types provide good results even if your skin has oily or combination skin. The difference between them is their texture. Milanese Eye Shadow Primer comes in a stick form while Mila Eye Shadow Primer comes in a tube form. You can choose which one you prefer based on your needs.
The texture of Milani Eye Shadow Primer makes it easy to apply on the lids. The formula is creamy and it blends smoothly with the skin.
It has a medium thickness which is not too thick and not too runny. The eye shadow glides easily over this primer. It does not feel greasy or oily. After you apply, it dries quickly and it leaves the eye lids smooth and matte. The best thing about this primer is that it keeps your eye shadow in place for a long time. So, you can easily go without retouching your make up even in hot summer days.
A lot of people use it as a stand-alone product rather than wearing it under the eyeshadows. They apply it on the eyelids before putting on mascara to prevent smudging.
It also works as a good base for the powder or liquid eyeliners. You can wear it alone, without any eye shadows for a fresh natural look.
The Downside of Milani Eyeshadow Primer
Some customers are not happy with this product because it breaks them out. The culprit is the dimethicone.
It is a silicone based product that may cause allergic reactions to some people. If you have sensitive skin, it is better to avoid this product because it will give you white heads and black heads.
You should also know that the silicone based makeup primers can pill off when you use a sponge or a brush to apply them. So, it is better to use your fingers for application.
This will prevent the product from drying out.
Another downside of this product is it does not last long. You have to keep on applying it every after few hours to maintain your fresh look.
Applying it to lower lash line can cause the eye shadows to fade off easily. Unless you apply a waterproof formula eye shadow, it will easily fade even when you use this primer.

How to use
Wash your face and apply your preferred moisturizer. If you have dry skin, you can apply a skin primer before the makeup primer to give more hydration and smoothness to the skin.
Apply this product with your finger tips by tapping it on the lids and gently rubbing it into your skin, making sure that you cover the whole area.
After this, you can apply your eye shadow as usual. For best results, allow the eye shadow primer to set for at least a minute or two before applying the eye shadow.
This gives it time to set properly on your skin and prevents it from creasing or moving.
For longer lasting makeup, you can also use a setting spray to lock everything in place.
What do we like about it?
It is very affordable. You only need a small amount of the product to cover the entire lid area. So, even if you have to replace it after 3-4 months, it is not a big deal.
It makes your eye shadows look more vibrant and last longer.
It comes in a tube packaging which is mess-free.
It does not cause allergic reactions on most people. Even the people who have very sensitive skin can use this.
It is ideal for all skin types, especially the dry skin types because it adds a little moisture to the skin and prevents flaky dry patches from forming.
What can be improved?
It may not work well for people who have oily skin type or combination skin type because it does provide a little extra hydration to the lids. If you have oily lids, you will find that your eye shadows start to crease because of the oil. If you have combination skin type, the eye shadows may crease in the areas where there is more oil.
It does not work well on lower lash lines. Applying it on your lower waterline can cause the eye shadows to fade off very quickly.
You have to use a different primer if you want to use it for your lower lash line.
The NYX Eye Shadow Base is a good product to use if you want your eye shadow to look vibrant, last longer and not crease. It works well for people who do not have oily lids and those who do not like to use a glitter primer.
If you want something that can be used on the lower lash line as well, you may want to try the Makeup Forever Step 1 Skin Equalizer instead.
