Best Colander: What are they?
The best colander is made from a special material which prevents bacteria growth inside it. There are different types of colanders available in the market today. Some have handles or latches to prevent them from falling over while others have wheels and locks so that they can’t fall off your kitchen counter when not in use. You may need to buy several kinds of colanders depending upon how many utensils you plan to store in them.
There are two main types of colanders available in the market today: those with handles and those without. These are called flatware colanders because they do not have any handles. Bamboo, wood and plastic colanders are harder to clean since they retain a lot of water. If you choose such colanders then it is best to leave them to drain thoroughly before drying and storing.
There are different materials from which colanders are made available in the market today. The material often depends upon the intended use of the colander. For example, if it is meant for everyday use in the kitchen then manufacturers will make it from stainless steel or plastic. If it is an aesthetic piece which will not get much wear and tear then they will make it from wood or bamboo. You can even find some colanders which are made of cloth though these are more commonly used in laboratories and hospitals to drain blood from surgical instruments.
Manual or Electric
Manual colanders require you to do all the work yourself. You have to put in a little elbow grease if you want them to work properly. They often come with rubber handles which make it easier to grip them when your hands are wet with soapy water. However, you will need to manually drain the water by tipping it or shaking it from side to side. They are also susceptible to breaking and they can rust if not dried properly after use.
Electric colanders have changed drastically over the years. In the past, you would need to put in a cord and plug it into an outlet in order for it to work. These days, some manufacturers have started making cordless models which you can just take out of the box, put under running water and turn on. The electric colander will suck up the water from the bottom and drain it into a container placed below. These can be stored easily and take up less space because they have just one cord which you can wrap around the base for storage.
You will need to make sure that the colander you buy fits your needs. For example, a large family will need a larger electric colander than a small family. You also want to make sure that the electric cord is long enough to reach an outlet wherever you intend to use it. It should also be easy to clean and operate. If you like your colander to have a stylish design then make sure that it fits in with the overall decor of your kitchen.
A colander is a must in every kitchen. These are available in different designs and materials. For everyday use, you can choose stainless steel or plastic colanders. If you want something more aesthetic then wood or bamboo colanders will fit the bill. It is important to choose the right size and type for your needs.
