Bakeware is used for baking. You need to make a cake or bread with it. There are different types of bakeware available in the market today. A Little Chocolate History
Did you know that the first baking chocolate was made back in the year 2600 BC?
It was first made by the Olmecs and they used it for both drinking and baking. It wasn’t until 300 years later that the Mayans began creating their own version of chocolate. The Aztecs were the ones who really started to kick it up a notch when it came to making the product, though. They would roast the cacao beans and then mix them with other ingredients such as honey, tomato, spices, and many more.
The Mayans were also responsible for creating the first chocolate drink. They called it “Chicolatl” and served it very hot. It made its way over to Spain in the year 1519 where the Spanish didn’t quite know what to make of it at first.
But, once they tried it and added a few things of their own such as milk, sugar, and other flavorings it became very popular. In fact, it was so popular that it was outlawed by the Spanish because they worried that it would hinder the working abilities of the natives.
It wasn’t until 1847 when a man named John Harvey Kellogg decided to try his hand at making a chocolate cereal. He added the chocolate to a wheat cereal, but it wasn’t very popular at first. It took a while for it to gain momentum, but by the 20th century the popularity skyrocketed and there were many companies creating their own chocolate cereals.
Even the famous William Buckley (a well-known explorer) was known to carry some on his travels so he wouldn’t get hungry.
It wasn’t until 1876 that a gentleman by the name of Daniel Peter created the first milk chocolate. He was working for a company that created health foods and added the chocolate to their “nutritional” milk drink. It became so popular that he left the company and partnered with another man to create the “Peter’s Chocolate” brand that is still popular today.
Which is best?
There are so many different kinds of baking chocolates on the market today, that it can make your head spin. So, to make your life easier, we have narrowed it down to what we believe to be the top four options. These are all highly rated and come from reputable companies that have been making their products for years.
1. Guittard Semisweet Chocolate Chips
These are the chips that you will probably find in most grocery stores and are by far the most popular. One of the reasons for this is because they are readily available. Another reason is because they taste good!
They have a nice, rich flavor and are soft enough that they won’t hurt your teeth (some of the others can be very hard).
Most reviewers say that a little bit goes a long way with these, but you have to keep them wrapped tightly or they will dry out. The disadvantage to this is that they are also notorious for falling victim to bugs. If you don’t finish the bag quickly enough, you might just find ants making a day of it with your chips!
2. Dagoba Organic Chocolate Discs
These are probably the most unique looking of all the options. They are also fair trade, which means they have been made with better working conditions for the employees in mind. This isn’t just a great option because of the ethics involved though; this one tastes amazing!
The discs come in a few different flavors, but the white chocolate is by far the most popular. These are much softer than the Guittards and won’t hurt your teeth. They also have a nice, rich, complex flavor that you will absolutely love.
These are a little bit on the expensive side, but customers say they are definitely worth every penny.
Most people who buy these don’t even like dark chocolate, but love these instead. They only come in 1 ounce disks so you will have to order quite a few packages, but most people say it’s worth it.
3. Droste Cocoa
These little packages are very cheap and for a good reason. They don’t taste very good and they have a very artificial flavor to them. Most people say the only reason they buy them is because they are so cheap and it’s better than drinking coffee.
Make sure you read the reviews before you buy these, because they are truly awful. Most people say they absolutely hate the taste and wouldn’t even give them away because they are so bad.
4. Baker’s Chocolate
This is a classic option and has been loved for generations. The chocolate itself is very high quality and has great flavor. The only problem with it is that it is very hard and therefore hurts your teeth.
It does come in squares (which are slightly better because they are softer) and baking bars which are wrapped in wax paper (these are the best and even come in little individual squares that are easy to measure out).
You can also buy it in bulk which will save you some money, but make sure you have room in the fridge!
5. Green and Black’s Organic Chocolate
These bars are slightly more expensive than the other options, but they are worth it. They come in dark, milk and white chocolate and they all have a great flavor to them.
Most people say the dark chocolate is a bit too bitter, but if you pour a bit of milk into it, it makes the flavor just right. The white chocolate is a classic favorite and most people say that it is the best.
The milk chocolate has a very rich flavor and melts in your mouth, and again, if you pour in a little bit of milk the flavor is just right.
6. Hershey’s Chocolate Bar (with Almonds)
These are absolutely delicious, but they do come with a warning. They are very sweet and if you are not used to sweetness, these may be too strong for you.
The chocolate itself is of a fair quality, but it is the almonds that make these so special. There are plenty of almonds in every bite and the whole bar has a rich, sweet flavor to it.
They are slightly more expensive than your average candy bar, but most people say they are definitely worth it!
