Alkaline water pitcher is a container with a porous material inside it. The purpose of such a device is to remove harmful acids from the water and neutralize them through electrolysis. This process creates pure drinking water without any impurities or taste. There are various types of alkaline water filters which have been developed over time. Some of these devices use only activated carbon filtration while others use both activated carbon and reverse osmosis (RO) membranes. Activated Carbon Filters
Activated carbon filters contain a small amount of activated charcoal particles suspended in the liquid solution. These particles absorb harmful acids and other chemicals present in the water. The activated carbon filters are used in situations where the pH level of the water is too high to safely handle. For example, if your tap water contains chlorine levels above 7.0, then using an activated carbon filter would not be suitable since it will not allow you to drink this type of water.
The activated carbon filters are not very efficient in terms of cost. However, it is very easy to use and it allows you to get rid of unwanted taste and odor found in the water.
Reverse Osmosis (RO)
The reverse osmosis filters are a little more complex than the activated carbon filters. In this process, water is forced through a semipermeable membrane under pressure. This process will result in high-quality water free of any undesirable elements.
However, the major disadvantage of using a reverse osmosis filter is that it requires a lot of pressure in order to force water through the membrane. This results in higher energy consumption and a more expensive unit that needs to be replaced every once in a while.
Alkaline Water Pitchers and pH Balance
Many people prefer using an alkaline water pitcher to produce high-quality alkaline water. These devices have become very popular in the last few years. They are usually simple to use appliances that utilize a combination of activated carbon filters and other filters such as reverse osmosis. While all of these filters can produce quality drinking water, there are some concerns about their use on a regular basis.
Many people do not know that drinking purified water on a regular basis can actually have a harmful effect on their entire body. The human body thrives off of both good and bad bacteria. When we drink only purified water, it results in an unbalanced ecosystem inside the intestines. This can result in diarrhea and many other problems.
Purified water is not recommended for babies and young children for this reason. The use of an alkaline water pitcher is even more problematic when it comes to health issues. Compared to regular water, the pH level of the water is much higher in an alkaline water pitcher. This can cause a very serious condition known as “metabolic acidosis” where the body undergoes a buildup of harmful acids in the blood.
While using an alkaline water pitcher can be beneficial for some people, it is not recommended for regular use by most experts. It would be much better if the user could find a way to bring the pH balance of regular tap water into the alkaline range. Fortunately, there is a way to do this without having to rely on any special filters or pitchers.
Using an ionizer to adjust the pH level of regular water is much more efficient and cost-effective. The ionizer simply takes regular tap water and converts it into alkaline water through a process known as electrolysis. Electrolysis is simply the process of separating water (H2O) into oxygen (O2) and hydrogen (H) through the use of electricity (E).
